Prabowo-Putin Hold Private Meeting for 3 Hours: What Was Agreed?
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday (13/4/2026) produced several important points for both countries. Teddy mentioned that there is cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector, which is a long-term priority for Indonesia and Russia. “Several points were agreed upon, including long-term cooperation in the ESDM sector, encompassing oil and gas energy resilience and downstreaming,” Teddy said in a statement from the Presidential Staff Office on Tuesday (14/4/2026). In addition to the energy sector, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to continuing and expanding cooperation in various other fields, which are considered to have a direct impact on national development. Furthermore, Teddy emphasised that Russia holds a very strategic position in the global chessboard, making the partnership with Indonesia increasingly relevant and important. This is because Russia is one of the countries holding veto power in the United Nations Security Council and a founder of BRICS. Moreover, Russia is also one of the world’s major powers with vast natural resource potential, which can serve as an important partner for Indonesia in driving long-term development. Teddy noted that the meeting demonstrates the increasing intensity of bilateral relations between the two leaders over the past year. “President Prabowo and President Putin last met in December in Moscow and have met five times in various occasions over the past year,” he said.
