Prabowo, Putin, and Xi Jinping Plant Banyan Trees Together During BRICS Summit

President Prabowo Subianto participated in a joint tree-planting activity with member state leaders as part of the 18th BRICS Summit 2026. This planting initiative carries a significant message regarding the importance of maintaining environmental sustainability.

According to the Presidential Secretariat Bureau, the tree planting took place at the Nataraj Statue area, Bharat Mandapam, India, on Saturday (12/9/2026). Before the planting commenced, Prabowo and the BRICS member leaders captured the moment of togetherness through a photo session.

During the session, Prabowo was seen standing alongside the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Also present alongside the Egyptian President were Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other BRICS member leaders.

Subsequently, Prabowo and the other leaders proceeded to plant banyan trees. The banyan tree, which is the national tree of India, is known for its strong roots and symbolises longevity, resilience, and eternity.

Alongside the other leaders, Prabowo was seen walking towards the planting site. The Head of State then took a shovel and poured soil from a burlap sack onto the banyan sapling.

Following this, Prabowo used a provided watering can to continue the planting process, watering the newly planted banyan sapling as part of the symbolic joint planting ceremony with BRICS member leaders.

The planting of the banyan trees was not merely part of the shared agenda but also conveyed a message about the importance of environmental sustainability. Given the banyan tree’s character of being able to grow large and live for a long time, this planting serves as a symbol of hope for the growth of sustainable cooperation that benefits society.
