Prabowo pushes for industrialisation, aiming for Indonesia to be able to manufacture cars, motorcycles and even mobile phones itself

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto emphasised the importance of industrialisation and the downstreaming of natural resources (SDA) to strengthen the national economy.

Through industrialisation and downstreaming, he wants Indonesia to become a country that produces cars, motorcycles, and even mobile phones itself.

‘We must make our own cars. We must make our own motorcycles. We must make our own televisions, computers, and mobile phones. We must not merely be a market for other nations,’ Prabowo said during the plenary meeting delivering the Macro Economic Framework (KEM) and the Core Principles of Fiscal Policy (PPKF) for the 2027 RAPBN, at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

The presence of Danantara, Prabowo said, is an important instrument in supporting the financing of development and accelerating national industrialisation.

‘We continue to identify land owned by the state, assets owned by the state, buildings owned by the state, which are not insignificant in value. Danantara has proven its effectiveness; Danantara will accelerate development financing, particularly investment and working capital to speed up industrialisation,’ Prabowo said.

He stated that investment realisation and village-based economic programmes are deemed to have an impact on national employment absorption.

‘From the Minister of Investment I have been informed that 2.7 million new jobs have been created. The results of investment realisation from domestic and foreign sources in 2025. Each Koperasi Desa and Koperasi Kelurahan Merah Putih will open new formal employment in the villages,’ Prabowo said.

‘We must be confident, we must believe in our own strength, we must believe in our own personality, in our own culture, in the philosophy of our ancestors. We believe in gotong royong (mutual cooperation), we believe in supporting and helping one another. That is our instinct, that is our culture,’ Prabowo said.
