Prabowo Pushes for Indonesia-France Strategic Partnership, Discusses Middle East Peace
Paris - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasised the importance of strengthening the strategic partnership between Indonesia and France amid increasingly uncertain global conditions. This was stated by Prabowo during a joint press statement with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
During the event, Prabowo stated that both countries play a crucial role in maintaining global stability and peace.
“The two nations can play a positive role. Indonesia will always support all efforts to preserve peace. War and conflict cannot bring benefits to anyone,” said Prabowo Subianto on Friday, 29 May 2026.
Besides peace issues, the two leaders also discussed strengthening economic cooperation through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) framework. Prabowo welcomed the establishment of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council, which is expected to boost investment and business relations between the two countries.
“We will be very pleased with the participation and presence of French companies in Indonesia’s economy, and France as a European leader will continue to play a very important role in Southeast Asia,” said Prabowo.
The Middle East issue was also discussed during the meeting. Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s support for a two-state solution as the only path to peace in Palestine.
“Indonesia remains of the view that there can be no Middle East peace without a two-state solution, without justice for the Palestinian people,” he stressed.
Prabowo also appreciated France’s stance as one of the pioneers among European and Western nations supporting Palestinian independence.
Closing his statement, Prabowo affirmed that Indonesia views France and Europe as key powers in realising a multipolar, balanced, and peaceful world order.
“Indonesia sees France and Europe as important global powers, and we want to see France and Europe’s role become stronger and more robust so we can cooperate in a multipolar world,” Prabowo concluded.
