Prabowo Pushes for Enhanced Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership
President Prabowo Subianto has called for an enhancement of the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Japan, especially in the economic sector, investment, and future industries, at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum held in Tokyo on Monday (30/3/2026) local time.
In an official broadcast from BPMI of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo emphasised the importance of Japan as a strategic partner for Indonesia. Economic relations between the two countries have lasted for decades, with significant contributions from Japanese companies across various sectors.
Prabowo expressed appreciation to Japanese business actors who have long invested in Indonesia and played a role in national development.
“Japan has consistently supported Indonesia’s economic development. Many of you in this room have been part of that journey. You have been in Indonesia for a long time. You know Indonesia well—its people, market, culture, and potential,” stated Prabowo.
On that occasion, Prabowo affirmed his presence at the forum to push the partnership to a higher and faster level. Prabowo assessed that a strong economic partnership would support peace and sustainable friendship amid an increasingly connected world. He highlighted Indonesia’s transformation into a more competitive and forward-moving nation compared to two decades ago.
In front of global business leaders, Prabowo underlined that Japan is one of Indonesia’s most trusted economic partners. Japanese investments are known for their quality, with characteristics of discipline, technological mastery, and long-term commitment. President Prabowo personally appreciated the close relations between the two countries.
“Japan brings quality to investments, discipline, technology, and long-term commitment. That is why Japanese investments are respected, not only in Indonesia but throughout the world, and personally, I greatly appreciate this relationship,” said the President.
The forum serves as an important stage for Indonesia to reaffirm its position as Japan’s primary strategic partner. This opens opportunities for more modern, resilient, and future-oriented economic cooperation.
