Prabowo Pushes for Acceleration of National Home Renovation Programme
The government is accelerating the people’s housing programme by focusing on the mass renovation of unfit homes. This step was decided during a limited meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace on Monday (6/4).
Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait stated that there is strong encouragement from the president to expand housing access, one of which is through enhancing the home renovation programme prepared across ministries.
“We just held a meeting with Mr President, and there is extraordinary support from President Prabowo for people’s housing. One of the strategic steps is the enhancement of home renovation, people’s home renovation. It is being prepared together with the Minister of Finance, the State Secretary, and the Cabinet Secretary for the renovation of people’s homes throughout Indonesia,” said Maruarar.
The target for this programme is increasing significantly. The government aims to renovate 400,000 housing units this year, covering all regencies and cities in Indonesia.
“This year, all regencies and cities throughout Indonesia will receive the home renovation programme from President Prabowo. This is a very significant programme that will stimulate the economy and ensure fairness,” she continued.
In addition to renovations, the government is also directing efforts towards optimising state lands for new housing construction, particularly in urban areas. Lands owned by state-owned enterprises (SOEs), including the railway sector, are prioritised for the development of apartment buildings with mixed schemes for low- to middle-income communities.
“So, how can these state lands be managed for people’s housing. They will also be combined for low-income communities as well as middle-income ones, so there is a combination,” said Maruarar.
Several projects are already underway, including the construction of hundreds of housing units in the Senen area, Jakarta, as well as additional plans from PT KAI. The Senen project is targeted for completion in the near future.
“Following President Prabowo’s instructions, after his visit to the field two weeks ago in the Senen area, construction has already begun in the Jalan Kramat area. I was with Mr Doni, following Mr Rosan’s instructions, around 300 homes in the Senen area. Then, the railways, KAI, are also preparing the next 500 homes that will soon be processed. The one in Senen will be ready by 15 June, meaning in two months, 15 June 2026,” explained Maruarar.
To support the acceleration, the government is also relying on land provision by the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) led by Nusron Wahid, as well as financing schemes involving Danantara.
“Later, the lands prepared by Mr Nusron, we have also received instructions to prepare the financing and construction by Danantara. So, this synergy has been decided and will be implemented massively,” clarified Maruarar.
