Prabowo Proud of Danantara, Reveals Key Milestones for Indonesia's Sovereign Wealth Fund
President Prabowo Subianto has declared the presence of Danantara as one of the Indonesian nation’s achievements that will be remembered by history. According to Prabowo, this is the first time Indonesia has successfully built a sovereign wealth fund to house state assets.
He made the remarks while delivering a briefing at a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (20/7/2026). “One of our achievements that will be remembered by history is the first time the Indonesian nation has successfully built a sovereign wealth fund which we call Danantara,” Prabowo stated.
Prabowo explained that Danantara stands for Daya Anagata Nusantara, which he interprets as the power or energy of the future for the homeland. He described the fund as a reserve and future energy for the next generations. “This becomes a reserve, the future energy for our children and great-grandchildren. Alhamdulillah, we have Danantara Indonesia, whose asset value is worth more than US$1,000 billion,” Prabowo said.
According to Prabowo, state wealth of that magnitude had often gone unmonitored and its whereabouts were not understood. He admitted that when he was still a cabinet member during President Joko Widodo’s era, he had not yet mastered the figures related to state assets. Prabowo even confessed to being shocked upon receiving a report that the number of state-owned enterprises (BUMN) reached 1,077 entities, far exceeding his initial estimate of around 300 to 350 companies. He noted that many BUMN had formed subsidiaries, sub-subsidiaries, and even further layers of companies.
He also expressed pride in the performance of Danantara’s leadership. In its first 18 months, Danantara has reportedly closed, consolidated, and merged 250 BUMN, with a target of reducing the total number of entities to a maximum of 350 by the end of 2026. Danantara Indonesia was established in February 2025 as a state investment management body. The institution is led by Rosan Roeslani as CEO, with Dony Oskaria as COO and Head of the BUMN Supervisory Board, and Pandu Sjahrir as Chief Investment Officer.
