Prabowo Proud as Indonesian Rice and Fertiliser are in High Demand from Other Countries

Prabowo made these remarks during the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum and a rest house in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday (16 May 2026). He initially explained that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the war has affected many things, especially the delivery of fertiliser.

“Currently, many countries are facing difficulties and are panicking because of the war in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is closed, and 20 per cent of the world’s oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, which means that fertiliser is affected because much of the fertiliser comes from oil and gas. Urea is very much needed,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo then received a report from the Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, regarding the number of countries that are buying fertiliser from Indonesia. Prabowo stated that Indonesia is now in a position to provide assistance.

“Now I have received a report from the Minister of Agriculture that many countries are asking for fertiliser from Indonesia. We are not being euphoric, we are not being arrogant, but we are now in a position to provide assistance,” he said.

The countries that have requested assistance include Australia, the Philippines, India, and Bangladesh. Prabowo then ordered his team to help these countries.

“Australia has asked for our help, we are selling 500,000 tons to Australia, the Philippines has asked us, India has asked us, Bangladesh has asked us, Brazil has asked us. My order is to help them all,” he said.

Not only that, but Prabowo said that many other countries want to buy rice from Indonesia. Prabowo admitted that he was proud and thanked all parties.

“Also, many countries now want to buy rice from us. Imagine if we were not self-sufficient, if we had not quickly resolved the agricultural problems. Thank you to all parties. Luckily, we have a great Minister of Agriculture because he is indeed a farmer’s son,” he said.
