President Prabowo Subianto plans to build official residences for judges throughout Indonesia. This plan has already been instructed to the Minister of People’s Housing.

According to Prabowo, judges must be respected and given sufficient income so that judges in Indonesia cannot be bribed. It turns out that, according to Prabowo, even after salaries were increased, the housing allowance is still insufficient. Yet, judges must be placed across Indonesia.

“I have also instructed the Minister of People’s Housing to create official residences for all judges,” he stated during the handover of administrative fines and forest area land at the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

“Because it turns out that even though their income has risen significantly, the monthly housing allowance for salary… er, for housing, if I’m not mistaken, is Rp1.5 million. Yet judges are also on assignment. Sometimes they have to be in this regency, sometimes they have to move to this province,” he continued.

From Prabowo’s calculation, the number of judges in Indonesia is approximately 8,900 people. From that number, Prabowo is confident that the government can provide decent official residences.

“There are roughly only about 8,900 judges. So I think we can afford to provide decent official residences,” he said.

As is known, in June 2025, Prabowo announced a salary increase for judges in Indonesia of up to 280%. This salary increase was announced by the President while attending the Inauguration of Supreme Court Judges of the Republic of Indonesia for 2025 at the Supreme Court Office, Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 June 2025.

This salary increase was decided because judges had not received a raise for 18 years.

“I, Prabowo Subianto, the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia. Today I announce that judges’ salaries will be increased, for the welfare of the judges, with varying increase rates according to rank, where the highest increase reaches 280 percent,” the President said in his speech at the Supreme Court.

The highest salary increase figure, according to the President, is given to the most junior rank. Nevertheless, the Head of State assured that this significant salary increase will apply to all judges.
