Prabowo Promises Ride-Hailing App Cuts to Fall Below 10 Percent

President Prabowo Subianto will reduce the commission charged by ride-hailing apps to online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers to below 10 percent. He made this statement in a speech during the International Labour Day (May Day) celebrations at Monas in Central Jakarta on Friday (1/5). Prabowo initially received aspirations from one of the labour unions to lower the ride-hailing app commissions on their drivers to 10 percent. During his speech, the Head of State engaged in a dialogue from the podium with the labour crowds. “Ojol, the app companies demand a 20 percent cut. How about ojol agreeing to 20 percent? What about 15 percent? How much? 10? You want 10? I say here that I do not agree with 10 percent,” said Prabowo. It turned out that Prabowo’s intention in not agreeing to 10 percent was because he wanted the app commissions to be below 10 percent. The statement was enthusiastically received by the labour masses present at the May Day celebrations since the morning. According to Prabowo, the app commissions deserve to be lowered to below 10 percent because ojol drivers work hard on the roads. “Ojol work hard. Ojol risk their lives every day. (The commission to apps) must be below 10 percent!” stated Prabowo. The General Chairman of the Gerindra Party emphasised that if ojol companies do not want to follow this regulation, they can leave Indonesia. “How convenient. You sweat, they (the apps) get the money. Sorry. If you don’t want to follow us, don’t do business in Indonesia,” said Prabowo.
