Prabowo Promises Hajj Costs for 2026 Could Drop by Rp2 Million
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has stated that the Hajj costs for 2026 will decrease by around Rp2 million. Amid a global crisis that has significantly impacted all sectors, including aviation, Prabowo said the government remains committed to fighting for the people’s interests. “What we have decided, which I can announce now, is that for the implementation of Hajj in 2026, unless the Saudi Arabian government decides otherwise, if we proceed, we ensure that the Hajj costs for 2026 will be reduced by around Rp2 million,” Prabowo said during the ‘Presidential Briefing at the Red and White Cabinet Working Meeting’ in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4). “Even though avtur prices are rising, we are bold enough to lower the Hajj costs for this year,” he added. Prabowo stated that this is a form of the government’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable people. “We are now fighting, and Alhamdulillah, the Hajj waiting list is no longer 48 years. Starting in 2026, the Hajj waiting list will be at most 26 years, and I will strive to make it even shorter,” he said. Prabowo then expressed pride that Indonesia now has around 45 hectares of land in Mecca that will be developed into an Indonesian Hajj village. “For the first time in Indonesian history, we have been honoured; we now have land in the holy city of Mecca, around 45 hectares in total, old and new, and we will build an Indonesian Hajj village. Dozens of towers that can accommodate (pilgrims),” he explained. “In fact, I have proposed and it has been approved; I requested permission from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Indonesia to have a special Hajj terminal so that pilgrims can enter and exit more quickly,” he emphasised.
