Prabowo Promises Fishermen Easy Access to Ice and Diesel
Jakarta, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto promised that the government would guarantee ease for fishermen to obtain ice blocks and diesel within the next three years.
‘Right now our fishermen are finding it hard to obtain ice. They struggle to get ice, let alone the diesel they need. The government will intervene and undertake major efforts,’ Prabowo said in a speech at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
The promise was made as Prabowo spoke during a plenary session of the DPR RI with the agenda of presenting the Macro Economic Framework and the Main Points of Fiscal Policy (KEM PPKF) at this DPR plenary session.
‘We will build, in the next three years, 5,000 fisher villages. This year we will inaugurate 1,386 fisher villages,’ he said.
Prabowo promised that each fisher village would be equipped with various supporting facilities, ranging from ice-making installations, cold storage facilities, to dedicated fuel stations for fishermen.
‘We will guarantee that every fisherman can have ice blocks. We will install ice-making installations in every fisher village. We will create cold storage spaces in every fisher village, and we will establish SPBU dedicated to fishermen in every fisher village,’ Prabowo said.
‘Our fishermen must be empowered because, in the end, they will master our seas,’ he added.
In his speech, Prabowo also expressed hope that farmers and fishermen could live in greater prosperity. He noted that fishermen have long risked their lives to provide protein for the people.
‘We want our fishermen who risk their lives to produce protein for our people to go to sea with good and safe equipment, and to harvest high-value catches,’ he concluded.
