Prabowo Promises Cold Storage Facilities and Dedicated Fishermen’s Fuel Stations in Every Fishing Village
President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated that fishermen in Indonesia must be empowered. One of the measures to empower fishermen is the planned construction of cold storage facilities, storage spaces, and dedicated public fuel stations (SPBU) in every fishing village.
“We will establish cold storage facilities, cooling rooms in every fishing village, and we will create SPBU dedicated to fishermen in each fishing village,” Prabowo said in his address at the plenary session delivering the Macro Economic Framework (KEM) and the Pokok-Pokok Kebijakan Fiskal (PPKF) RAPBN 2027, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
This would help fishermen who currently struggle to obtain ice to preserve their catches. “Today our fishermen have difficulty obtaining ice blocks. They even struggle to obtain ice, let alone the diesel they need. The government will intervene, undertaking a major effort,” Prabowo said.
The chairman of the Gerindra Party said fishermen must be empowered because they play a crucial role in safeguarding and managing Indonesia’s sea areas. “Our fishermen must be empowered because, in the end, they will master our seas,” he said.
“We want our fishermen, who risk their lives to provide protein for our people, to go to sea with good and safe equipment, and to obtain high-value catches,” Prabowo concluded.
