Prabowo Prohibits Sale of State-Owned Enterprise Land in Greater Jakarta at Market Prices
JAKARTA — Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of the Housing Task Force, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has prohibited state-owned enterprises (SOEs) from selling land in Greater Jakarta at market prices, as these lands are designated for subsidised housing development.
“There is significant state-owned land in Greater Jakarta. President Prabowo has repeatedly stated to me and others that SOE land belongs to the Indonesian people and therefore cannot be sold at market prices,” Hashim said whilst inaugurating the construction of vertical housing at Manggarai Station in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.
“It is forbidden, it is haram. This land is specifically designated for housing subsidies. That is the directive,” he added.
Hashim noted that in land matters, some landowners attempt to profit maximally from the programme. “To be frank, there are parties seeking to take advantage through market valuations and so on. I believe this directive is clear, and I believe the KAI General Director already understands this,” he said.
The construction of three million homes represents an effort to realise the fifth principle of Indonesia’s founding ideology, social justice for all Indonesians. Consequently, Hashim called upon the government to ensure quality standards for the subsidised housing being built.
He expressed concern that citizens might become disappointed if the subsidised housing projects they are purchasing through instalments prove to be of poor quality. “I have heard many cases from the Minister of Public Works concerning misappropriation in people’s housing projects. There are numerous instances. If possible, the authorities and the Deputy Director General should ensure quality. We do not want our people to be disappointed,” Hashim said.
