President Prabowo Subianto is preparing a work-from-home policy to save on fuel oil (BBM) due to the war in the Middle East. The regulation will be issued in the period following the Eid holiday.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that fuel savings are necessary due to high oil prices. He conveyed this idea after a meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 March 2026.

One way to save is by reducing office working hours. “Efficiency is needed in working hours, where flexibility for work from home will be opened,” said Airlangga at the Palace.

However, Airlangga said the current WFH policy is still being designed by the government. It is planned that WFH will apply for one working day per week.

The government, said Airlangga, will implement the policy for civil servants (ASN) at central and regional levels. The government hopes that private companies will also follow the step. “This is hoped not only for ASN, but also for the private sector and regional governments,” he said.

According to him, the draft WFH policy is likely to be completed after the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday. If the concept is mature, Airlangga said the government will announce the WFH regulation to the public.

However, Airlangga has not confirmed when the regulation will take effect. “Post-Eid, but we will determine the timing later,” said the former Golkar Party chairman.

The WFH period will continue if world oil prices remain volatile. “We will see the situation. The oil price situation, the war situation. So we follow the developing situation,” said Airlangga.

President Prabowo previously asked all parties to save BBM to face oil price and supply volatility due to the war between the United States and Israel against Iran. Global oil prices have surged due to the war in the Middle East region.

Prabowo said Indonesia must take proactive steps to address the impact of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran. “In the sense that we must save BBM consumption,” said Prabowo in a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 13 March 2026.
