Prabowo Prepares Special Requirements to Recruit Dayak Tribe into TNI
President Prabowo Subianto has discussed adjustments to the requirements for members of the inland Dayak tribe who wish to join the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
Prabowo raised this matter during a meeting with high-ranking TNI officials and several ministers in Hambalang, West Java, on Saturday (29/8/2026). While the President requested updates regarding the plan to adjust these recruitment requirements, the specific details of the changes and the timeline for implementation have not yet been disclosed.
The meeting was attended by TNI Commander General Agus Subianto, alongside the Chiefs of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsuddin. Also present were the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
According to Teddy, in addition to discussing the recruitment of the inland Dayak tribe into the TNI, Prabowo requested reports on the handling of several disasters in Indonesia.
“During the meeting, President Prabowo requested updates on several matters, including the adjustment of requirements for recruiting the inland Dayak tribe to become TNI soldiers, and the management of several disasters, including the aftermath of the earthquake in Flores, the eruption of Mount Merapi, and the handling of forest and land fires in Indonesia, particularly in Kalimantan and Sumatra,” Teddy stated via the @sekretariat_kabinet Instagram account, as quoted on Sunday (30/8/2026).
Prabowo also expressed concern regarding the management of forest and land fires (karhutla). He instructed Village Supervisory Officers (Babinsa) in every village to provide understanding and education to the community regarding the dangers of forest burning.
This step is expected to involve the community directly in maintaining the sustainability of forests and land, as well as preventing fires from occurring.
“The President wants education regarding the dangers of forest burning to be provided by Babinsa in villages to residents, so that we can collectively protect our forests and lands,” added Teddy.
