Prabowo Prepares Budget for House Renovation at Rp 20 Million per Unit
President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the house renovation programme will have a budget of Rp 20 million per unit. From this total allocation, a portion will be dedicated to replacing roof tiles or the programme he has named ‘gentengisasi’.
The government will consider using tiles made from plastic waste in the home repair assistance programme. Prabowo conveyed this during his visit to the Environment and Education-Based Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST BLE) in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. The site is known to produce plastic pellets, paving blocks, and tiles from processed plastic waste.
‘The house renovation budget is now Rp 20 million per house. So, for one house, we calculate Rp 4 to 5 million for the tiles,’ said Prabowo.
According to the President, processing waste into tiles can reduce the cost of replacing roofs that still use zinc materials. Prabowo assessed the quality of the plastic waste tiles as quite good. ‘The tiles are decent, effective. They say it’s quite cheap. This could potentially be included in the budget for home repair assistance,’ he stated.
The Chairman of the Gerindra Party wants the public to stop using zinc as roof material. This is because zinc rusts easily and is harmful to health. ‘We want to eliminate the use of rusty zinc, as rust ultimately affects the health of the occupants,’ said Prabowo.
The former defence minister also mentioned that zinc roofs do not look good to the eye. ‘We will restore Indonesia to a truly beautiful Indonesia, making tourism appealing and ensuring we live comfortably,’ said Prabowo.
President Prabowo previously introduced the ‘gentengisasi’ project at the 2026 National Coordination Meeting of Central and Regional Governments in Sentul, Bogor, West Java, on Monday, 2 February 2026. He wants all public house roofs made of zinc to be replaced with tiles.
