Prabowo Prepares Additional Budget for Disaster Mitigation

President Prabowo Subianto has said the government will significantly increase its budget allocation for disaster mitigation. This is deemed important given that Indonesia lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it vulnerable to various natural disasters.

“A country located within the ring of fire means we must be prepared to face circumstances like this at any moment,” Prabowo said during a limited meeting on natural disaster management with regional heads, held virtually on Monday (7/9/2026).

“This is perhaps a lesson for us, and for the government I lead — the budget allocation for disaster mitigation must be increased significantly,” he continued.

Prabowo assessed that his administration is more capable of handling disasters compared to previous years. He cited the disaster response in several parts of Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.

“I believe we will be more capable in facing what lies ahead; even now, compared to previous years, our response has been very swift. The disaster situations in Sumatra — Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra — showed our response to be quite massive and quite rapid,” he said.

Prabowo went on to express his appreciation to all parties who worked on disaster management in those regions. According to him, the government succeeded in carrying out recovery efforts by relying on its own strength.

“For that reason, I thank all those who have worked hard. We restored the situation in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra with our own capabilities — I believe we managed it quite successfully,” he said.
