Prabowo Prepared to Visit North Korea

President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his readiness to travel to North Korea, claiming he was requested to do so by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. Prabowo shared that the request was made during his recent visit to South Korea, where President Lee asked him to serve as an intermediary for dialogue with North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un.

“During my last visit to Seoul, the South Korean President asked if I could visit North Korea to initiate some form of dialogue,” Prabost stated during a speech before the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Friday, 31 July 2026. Prabowo declared his readiness, saying, “I replied with respect and willingness; if His Majesty requests me to go to North Korea, I will go.”

According to Prabowo, this anecdote serves as evidence that Indonesia can maintain close ties with any nation in international politics. He noted that Indonesia’s non-aligned policy ensures the country is welcomed everywhere. He added that Indonesia is perceived as having no interest in interfering in the domestic affairs of any other nation, a principle the country holds firmly.

He further stated that Indonesia respects all global powers, including the United States, China, Russia, Japan, India, and Australia. “We have problems occasionally, such as separatist issues. But we are good with our neighbours; we are good with Papua New Guinea,” he remarked.

Prabowo previously met with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on 1 April 2026 at Cheong Wa Dae, also known as the Blue House. During that meeting, Prabowo discussed the concept of ‘middle power’ nations, referring to countries with intermediate economic and military capacities that do not belong to the superpower group. Prabowo noted that both Indonesia and South Korea are middle powers sharing similar concerns, stating, “We both need stability and we both need peace.”
