Prabowo: Prambanan Temple a Masterpiece of World Civilisation
President Prabowo Subianto, together with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visited the Prambanan Temple complex in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Wednesday. The visit affirmed that relations between Indonesia and India are built not only through cooperation in various strategic fields but also on historical and cultural bonds that have been woven for more than a millennium. Prabowo explained that Prambanan Temple is one of the masterpieces of world civilisation, holding significant meaning for both Indonesia and the international community. He noted the visit was particularly special because Prambanan serves as a reminder of the strong civilisational ties between Indonesia and India that have existed for over a thousand years. “Today I had the opportunity to accompany His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Mr Narendra Modi, to visit Prambanan Temple, one of the masterpieces of world civilisation and a cultural heritage that is a source of pride not only for the Indonesian nation but also for the world,” Prabowo said during a joint press conference with PM Modi at the temple complex. The Indonesian leader stated that the relationship between the two countries is built not only through political, economic, and defence cooperation but is also rooted in cultural values, knowledge, and mutual respect passed down through generations. “We can still see and feel the traces of that history today,” Prabowo remarked. He added that Prambanan Temple is a symbol of the great Nusantara civilisation that upholds science, art, spirituality, and humanitarian values. The Ramayana reliefs carved on the temple walls, he continued, are evidence of the close historical and cultural ties between the Indonesian and Indian peoples. Prabowo expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen the friendship between the people of Indonesia and India. He said culture is a bridge that can unite nations, strengthen mutual understanding, and build trust in facing future challenges together. On the occasion, Prabowo also welcomed the agreement on the conservation and restoration of the Prambanan Temple complex between the Indonesian and Indian governments. The agreement is expected to serve as a tangible form of collaboration in preserving one of the world’s cultural heritages for future generations. Concluding his remarks, Prabowo expressed appreciation for PM Modi’s three-day state visit to Indonesia. He expressed optimism that the friendship between the two nations would grow stronger and continue to produce concrete and mutually beneficial cooperation.
