Prabowo Praises Quraish Shihab's Sermon: Differences Need Not Lead to Division
President Prabowo Subianto has praised a sermon delivered by Muslim scholar and intellectual M. Quraish Shihab during the Nuzul al-Quran commemoration. Prabowo valued the sermon for providing fundamental understanding of the meaning of peace, justice, and the importance of addressing differences without causing division.
“I am very grateful to Professor Quraish Shihab, who has just given us a brief sermon and has explained fundamental matters to us. The meaning of peace, the meaning of tranquillity, the meaning of harmony, and he has also shown us that differences need not necessarily lead to division,” Prabowo said in his remarks at the Nuzul al-Quran event at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
According to him, one of the most striking parts of the sermon was the explanation concerning the meaning of justice and understanding of the destiny of leadership. He stated that this explanation further reminded him that leadership is a great responsibility that must be carried out with full accountability.
“What is of great significance to me is his enlightening exposition on the meaning of justice. And also concerning the destiny of a leader who is entrusted by the nation and its people,” he said.
Prabowo believes that power truly originates from God Almighty and is given as a mission to defend truth and uphold justice. Additionally, power is also a trust to protect the people and bring prosperity to all of society.
“I am increasingly aware that leadership is a destiny and that power originates from the Almighty and power is given as a mission to defend truth, justice, and honesty, and that power is a duty to protect and bring prosperity and justice to all the people being led,” he continued.
Furthermore, Prabowo stated that the Nuzul al-Quran commemoration is an opportunity for all Muslims to return to understanding and reflecting upon the teachings contained in the Quran.
He hoped that the values conveyed in the sermon could serve as a reminder to all parties to strengthen unity and emulate the teachings of the Quran in daily life.
“My fellow citizens, this Nuzul al-Quran commemoration, I believe, is an opportunity for all of us to individually understand and reflect upon the meaning of what is taught in the Quran. Thus the messages given by the speaker, I believe, are very meaningful to all of us,” he said.
