Prabowo Praises Police Innovation in Transforming Corn Cobs into Energy Briquettes
President Prabowo Subianto has praised various breakthroughs made by the Indonesian National Police in supporting national food and energy security, including the innovation of processing corn cob waste into charcoal briquettes.
The praise was conveyed by Prabowo while attending the Simultaneous Corn Harvest Festival and the groundbreaking ceremony for 10 Food Security Warehouses of the Polri (Indonesian National Police) in Tuban, East Java, on Saturday (May 16).
Amidst the global energy crisis, the President said he was impressed with the Polri’s efforts to utilize agricultural waste as an alternative source of energy.
“I am relieved. Why? Because the world is facing an energy crisis, and countries are panicking. But now I am told, ‘Sir, don’t worry, we can make charcoal briquettes from corn cobs.’ That’s amazing,” Prabowo said in his speech, as quoted on Sunday (May 17).
According to him, this innovation shows that waste previously considered worthless can now be transformed into energy that is useful for the community. “The corn cobs used to be thrown away, but now they can become a source of energy. Thank you, Chief of Police, thank you, Indonesian National Police,” he said.
Prabowo also believes that this initiative by the Polri is an answer to various criticisms often directed at the police institution. He stated that real work in the field deserves recognition.
“You are often criticized; people say this and that about the Polri. But now you have proven it,” Prabowo said.
He added that this innovation was born from the close relationship between law enforcement officers, the community, and academics. According to him, this connection allows the Polri to understand the needs in the field and find applicable solutions.
In addition to utilizing corn cobs, Prabowo also highlighted the development of fertilizers made from low-calorie coal. He said that this innovation has the potential to strengthen national agricultural independence and reduce dependence on imported fertilizers.
“The fertilizer made from this low-calorie coal is also amazing. This is a miracle in my opinion. We can make fertilizer from our low-calorie coal,” he said.
Prabowo believes that if this innovation can be widely implemented, Indonesia will have a stronger position in maintaining national food security. “Once we are free from dependence on foreign fertilizers, we will be very strong,” he said.
To support the distribution of these innovative products to the community, Prabowo also asked for the involvement of the Merah Putih Cooperative network as a distribution channel. According to him, cooperatives can be a means of distributing the briquettes and fertilizers produced from this development to various regions. (Z-2)
