Prabowo Praises Macron’s International Leadership Influence
JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto praised French President Emmanuel Macron’s leadership, which is seen as having a strong influence in the international arena. The praise was made during a joint statement at a state visit to the Élysée Palace in Paris, France, on Thursday, 28 May 2026. “President Macron’s leadership is felt internationally, as he and the French Republic consistently take positive and firm stances in line with the principles upheld by the Republic of France,” Prabowo said. Prabowo stated that Indonesia and France share many common views on global issues. Consequently, bilateral relations between the two countries are currently at their best level. He noted that the close ties between Indonesia and France are due to Macron’s direct support in strengthening the partnership. Prabowo mentioned that cooperation between Indonesia and France spans strategic sectors, including defence, science and technology, and education. During the visit, Prabowo also said he had instructed Indonesian schools to enhance French language learning. “I have now instructed that all levels of Indonesian schools must learn French, looking towards future global developments,” Prabowo said. He added that Middle East peace cannot be achieved without Palestinian independence. “I am also pleased that France is among the pioneers urging many European and Western nations to support a two-state solution for Palestinian independence,” Prabowo said. In his speech, Prabowo also emphasised the importance of France and Europe in maintaining global balance amid increasing uncertainty and conflict. “Indonesia views France and Europe as vital global powers and we want to see France and Europe stronger and more resilient, enabling cooperation in a multipolar world,” Prabowo said.
