President Prabowo Subianto has praised the national bullion bank service for successfully managing 153 tonnes of gold, with an estimated value of USD 20 billion, since its launch in 2025. The president, while delivering a briefing at a plenary cabinet session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, stated that many achievements had been made during the first 20 months of his administration, including the establishment of the bullion bank service managed by Pegadaian and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). “For the first time in the history of the Republic of Indonesia, Indonesia has a bullion bank, which now manages 153 tonnes of gold,” Prabowo said. The president noted that the 153 tonnes of gold have an estimated value of around USD 20 billion (IDR 358 trillion), an achievement that has caught the attention of the global community. “This is also an economic strength that the world is taking note of, and I believe it will continue to increase in the coming years,” he added. This demonstrates that Indonesia has quietly achieved a feat on a global scale. Prabowo remarked that not many bullion bank services have managed to handle as much gold as Indonesia has in the past year. The national bullion bank service was launched in February 2025. According to data from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as of March 2026, the performance of the Bullion Financial Services Institution, PT Pegadaian, showed an increase in customers from 3.2 million in February 2025 to 5.6 million in February 2026. During the same period, public gold savings also increased from 10.5 tonnes to 19.25 tonnes. Meanwhile, BSI’s total gold management, including instalments, pawnbroking, and gold savings before the launch of its Bullion Business Activities in January 2025, rose from 16.85 tonnes to 22.5 tonnes in February 2026. The number of gold savings customers increased from 531,329 in December 2025 to 766,742 in February 2026.
