Prabowo Pledges to Stop Leakage of State Wealth, Outlines Commitment
President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his commitment to strengthening food sovereignty and stopping the leakage of state wealth, noting that several strategic milestones have been achieved during the first 19 months of his administration.
In a statement released through the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo noted that these achievements include realising self-sufficiency in several food commodities. “We have now achieved food self-sufficiency in rice and maize, though we are still working towards it for proteins such as eggs, poultry, and meat,” said Prabund during a large-scale shrimp harvest at the BUBK shrimp farming area in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, 23 May 2026. “This is work in progress; perhaps in four or five years, we will achieve meat self-sufficiency. Our food security is relatively stable.”
The President assessed that these achievements are vital amidst a global landscape filled with conflict and geopolitical uncertainty. He stated that Indonesia must remain vigilant and strengthen national resilience across various sectors. “There are many conflicts and wars happening around the world. We are grateful that we are not involved, but we must remain alert. We must possess strength, which is why we are building our defence capabilities to protect our wealth.”
In addition to food security and defence, Prabowo emphasised the importance of managing national wealth independently, in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, which stipulates that Indonesia’s natural resources must be utilised for the greatest benefit of the people. “Now, we are managing our wealth ourselves. We do not want our resources to be continuously manipulated by certain individuals or certain countries, and this is something we have already begun doing. We must do this; it is a mandate from the Constitution and is for the prosperity of all Indonesian people, not just a few,” the President stated.
The President also referenced his speech during the DPR Plenary Session on 20 May 2026, where he noted that while Indonesia possesses vast wealth, it still faces the issue of resource leakage that must be halted immediately. “Indonesia is truly very wealthy, but too much of our wealth is leaking, and this leakage must be stopped. I am determined, and I will work with all my strength, along with all my ministers, to do whatever is necessary to stop the leakage of the Indonesian people’s wealth,” Prabowo concluded.
