Prabowo Pledges to Renovate All State Schools by 2029

President Prabowo Subianto wants Indonesian schoolchildren to receive a good education. He wants them to learn foreign languages from an early age so that they can master them in the future.

Therefore, the first step of the current administration is to implement the largest school improvement programme in the country. According to him, by 2029, the government will have renovated all state schools.

“Up to this year, we have repaired more than 71,744 schools. Last year 17,000. This year 71,000. Next year, our target is 100,000, and in 2028 (repairs) 100,000. By 2029, all primary schools, junior high schools, senior high schools, vocational schools, including those in Islamic boarding schools, must have their renovations completed,” said Prabowo during his State Address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council in 2026 at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026).
