Prabowo pledges to end extreme poverty through 29 policies
In a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (July 20), he outlined 29 policies related to welfare improvement, divided into three categories: poverty eradication programs (0 percent poverty), universal programs, and affirmative action programs.
The President began his presentation by mentioning the Family Hope Program, which targets 10 million families in deciles 1 to 4.
“(These families) receive between Rp75,000 (US$4) to Rp250,000 (US$13.53) per month. For the People’s School program, children from the poorest decile receive a total of Rp4 million (US$216) per month. With the Smart Indonesia Card, 1.2 million students receive Rp800,000 (US$43) to Rp1.4 million (US$75) per month in living expenses,” the President stated before all members of the Red and White Cabinet and state officials.
Furthermore, the government is covering Single Tuition Fee (UKT) payments by transferring funds directly to universities.
While the Smart Indonesia Program supports 22.1 million students from the lowest-income households in deciles 1 through 4, reflecting the government’s extensive assistance for the poor.
Regarding the health sector, Prabowo stated that National Health Insurance has been provided to 96,800,000 people.
“Almost 100 million, 20 times larger than Singapore, 3.5 times larger than Malaysia, we provide coverage,” he added.
The president further explained the number of recipients of subsidies provided by the government, including LPG subsidies, diesel subsidies, Pertalite compensation, electricity subsidies and compensation, train fare discounts, sea transportation fare discounts, and food aid.
“For food assistance, 10 kilograms of rice, 2 liters of cooking oil for 3 months, for 33.24 million families in deciles 1, 2, 3, and 4,” he conveyed.
President Prabowo said Indonesia has made significant progress and urged the public not to underestimate the country’s potential. He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s strength and wealth would continue to grow as it manages its resources more effectively.
The following is a list of 29 Welfare Support Programs for 2026 presented at the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace on Monday:
Zero Percent Poverty Program
Family Hope Program (PKH): 10,000,000 families in deciles 1-4 receive assistance ranging from Rp75,000 (US$4) to Rp250,000 (US$13.53) per month;
Public Schools (Sekolah Rakyat): 44,635 students from families in deciles 1-2, with assistance of Rp4,000,000 (US$216) per student per month;
Smart Indonesia Program Card (PIP) for University: 1,200,000 students receive tuition exemption (paid directly by the state to the university) and living expenses of Rp800,000 (US$43) - Rp1,400,000 (US$75) per month;
Smart Indonesia Program (PIP): 22,100,000 students in deciles 1-4 receive Rp37,500 (US$2.03) - Rp150,000 (US$8.12) per month;
Staple Food Card: 18,250,000 families in deciles 1-5 receive Rp200,000 (US$10.82) per month;
ATENSI Social Assistance: 83,357 recipients, maximum assistance of Rp2,400,000 (US$130) per year per recipient;
National Health Insurance (JKN) PBI: 96,800,000 recipients from deciles 1-5, Rp42,000 (US$2.27) per month;
Empowerment Assistance: Socioeconomic Empowerment Program (PPSE) approximately Rp5,000,000 (US$270) per recipient. 15,000 recipients in total; Empowerment of Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT) approximately Rp10,000,000 (US$541) per recipient. 2,810 recipients in total;
Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS): 400,000 beneficiaries, Rp20,000,000 (US$1,082) per house;
Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP): For the 2010-2025 period, 1,877,747 households received assistance amounting to Rp727,000 (US$39.35) per month;
Disaster Assistance: Socioeconomic Stimulus Assistance of Rp5,000,000 (US$270) per recipient, for a total of 120,518 recipients; Social Recovery and Strengthening Assistance of approximately Rp7,900,000 (US$427.58) per recipient, for a total of 150,018 recipients; Disaster Preparedness and Logistics Assistance of approximately Rp600,000 (US$32.47) per recipient, for 169,014 recipients;
LPG Subsidy: 66,400,000 households received assistance amounting to Rp107,000 (US$5.79) per month;
Diesel Fuel Subsidy and Compensation: 484,087 households received assistance amounting to approximately Rp578,139 (US$31.28) per month;
Pertalite Compensation: 33,787,364 households receive Rp89,050 (US$4.82) per month;
Electricity Subsidy and Compensation: 87,000,000 households/customers receive approximately Rp130,000 (US$7.04) - Rp150,000 (US$8.12) per month;
Train Fare Discount: 481,503 passengers receive approximately Rp69,752 (US$3.78) per passenger;
Sea Transportation Fare Discount: 481,503 passengers receive approximately Rp97,403 (US$5.27) per passenger;
Food Aid: A three-month package of 10 kilograms of rice and 2 liters of cooking oil, approximately Rp179,278 (US$9.74) per month, with 33.24 million families in deciles 1-4 receiving approximately Rp179,278 per month;
Universal Program
Free Nutritious Meals (MBG): Assistance is approximately Rp300,000 (US$16.24) per month for 74,560,000 recipients, including students, pregnant/breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers;
Free Health Check-ups (CKG): The cost of each examination is approximately Rp655,000 (US$35.45) - Rp1,130,000 (US$61.16). The number of recipients is 130,800,000.
Affirmative Action Program
Undergraduate Internship for Fresh Graduates: Average Rp3,600,000 (US$194) per month, equivalent to the minimum wage. The number of interns is 150,000 for a 6-month period;
Sekolah Unggulan Garuda: Tuition covered is Rp9,500,000 (US$514) per month per student. A total of 1,920 students are enrolled in four newly established Garuda Excellence Schools/Sekolah Unggulan Garuda.
LPDP Scholarship: Amount of assistance for overseas universities is approximately Rp90,095,000 (US$4,871) per month, domestic universities approximately Rp10,700,520 (US$579) per mont
