Prabowo Pledges to Build Homes for Residents Along Senen Railway Tracks
President Prabowo Subianto has pledged to build decent homes for residents still living along the railway tracks in the Kramat area of Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta. He made this promise during a visit to the area on Thursday, 26 March 2026.
According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Prabowo wants the railway track residents to live in proper homes. “The President wants to build decent homes for residents still living along the railway tracks, 3 kilometres from central Jakarta,” Teddy said in his statement.
Prabowo conveyed the promise directly to the residents he met at the location. Several people expressed the commitment they heard from Prabowo to the presidential media team.
Cono, a scavenger and resident of the area, said he spoke directly with Prabowo. “Pak Prabowo said, ‘Would you like us to build you a high-rise?’ I said yes, sir, because I don’t have much place to live. That’s how it is here,” he said, as reported by the presidential media team in a press release on Prabowo’s visit to Senen.
Responding to Prabowo’s promise, another resident living along the railway tracks, Ibu Seger, hopes to one day occupy more decent housing like a high-rise. “I’ve lived here a long time; if there’s a high-rise, I’d like to live there. If there is one, maybe I wouldn’t be living by the tracks anymore,” she told the presidential media team.
Ibu Seger explained that economic limitations make it difficult for her to rent more decent accommodation. She earns money by begging daily. “I can’t afford to rent; my income is just enough. If I rent and can’t pay, the landlord evicts me. So I live here by the tracks; I hold on,” she said.
Prabowo also shared the same promise via a post on his Instagram account @prabowo. In the post, Prabowo shared a video of his impromptu visit to the area along the tracks in Kramat, Pasar Senen.
“Insyaallah, we will soon build decent housing for the community in that area quickly, and it has become my determination to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party.
