Prabowo Pledges to Build 1 Million Houses Near Industrial Areas

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has pledged to build one million houses near industrial areas. Prabowo made this promise while addressing workers’ demands during the 2026 May Day celebrations, which called for housing for labourers integrated with industrial zones. “Our target is at least one million houses, which we will start building this year as well. One million houses, and these houses, as per your suggestion, will be built in clusters near industrial areas,” said Prabowo during the May Day commemoration at Monas Field in Jakarta on Friday (1/4/2026). Furthermore, the Head of State promised to build hundreds of thousands of additional houses in various cities near industrial zones. “Near places of work, and I have already planned that we will create new cities. New cities. Each city might consist of 100,000 houses. Apartment blocks of 100,000,” he stated. Prabowo also instructed his officials to ensure that the built housing areas have access to transportation and complete facilities. According to Prabowo, the construction process of this one million houses programme will create many job opportunities. “This will also generate a lot of jobs. Imagine, one house requires five people to work on it. That means each year we could create millions of jobs,” he said.
