Prabowo Plans to Investigate SOE Directors 30 Years Back, DPR Responds

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has responded to President Prabowo Subianto’s speech regarding the restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Prabowo believes a number of SOEs have experienced negative financial performance that is quite detrimental.

“Yes, there was a proposal earlier because the President was too enthusiastic in conveying that indeed, looking back, many of our SOEs have suffered losses due to poor governance,” he said when met at the DPR RI building in Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026).

Prabowo admitted he was baffled by a number of state-owned companies that were irresponsible in carrying out their functions. He even plans to investigate the management boards that have led the companies up to 30 years back.

He also plans to provide a sort of special amnesty opportunity for those who admit their mistakes and commit not to repeat them. However, this plan will be submitted to the DPR RI.

“Well, of course we will study that matter first, and even if there are regulations, that is the domain of the government and the DPR,” he revealed.

Previously, Prabowo admitted he was surprised by the large number of SOEs, which totals more than a thousand companies. Prabowo further revealed that these thousands of SOEs also consist of subsidiaries and sub-subsidiaries.

“These SOEs sometimes work arbitrarily. They are not responsible to the nation, to the state. The government is disregarded. I do not understand how this could happen,” he said in his speech at the MPR Annual Session - DPR-DPD Joint Session, today, Friday (14/8/2026).

He admitted that too many SOEs are unproductive and continue to record financial losses.

“They keep losing money but report profits. They are just making up the profits. We are in trouble because many foreign companies also cooperate with our SOEs. So we must eliminate this, these games,” he concluded.
