The government will allocate Rp 4 trillion to improve 1,800 at-grade railway crossings, following the collision incident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station. President Prabowo Subianto revealed the funding during his direct inspection of the incident site today, Tuesday (28/4/2026). The Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Body (BP BUMN), who also serves as COO of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, stated that SOEs are ready to disburse funds to support the improvement of at-grade crossings. “Earlier, the President mentioned there will be an additional Rp 4 trillion, but it will be combined with KAI’s budget, and SOEs will also participate,” he said when met at the Mulia Hotel, Jakarta, on Tuesday (28/4/2026). For this purpose, an evaluation will be conducted on all railway crossings to enhance safety standards across the entire railway crossing network, both for train passengers and road users. “We will immediately carry out a comprehensive evaluation, both on train operations and especially regarding safety,” said Dony. Previously, Prabowo stated that the 1,800 crossings to be improved have existed since the Dutch colonial era. These crossings have also been an issue for the Indonesian government for decades. Prabowo stated that his administration will resolve the issue either by building flyovers or guard posts. “Let’s just resolve all of that; I have ordered that we will immediately repair all those crossings,” he said at Bekasi Station, Bekasi City, West Java, on Tuesday (28/4/2026). “Whether with guard posts or flyovers, we will appoint the implementers later,” he added.
