Prabowo Plans to Build New Cities for Workers, Equipped with Flats to Daycare
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto plans to create cities for workers. These new cities will be equipped with flats (rusun), childcare facilities or daycare, and mass transportation.
This was revealed by Prabowo at the 2026 International Labour Day or May Day commemoration at the National Monument (Monas) on Friday, 1 May 2026.
Initially, the Head of State stated that he had listened to and considered several proposals submitted by labour organisation leaders. One of them concerns childcare facilities and affordable decent housing for workers.
“It was also mentioned earlier that workers greatly need housing, affordable housing. We have already built quite a few this year, up to 350,000 houses, but our target is at least 1 million houses. We will start this year as well. 1 million houses close to workplaces,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo stated that he has planned to build new cities. In each city, said Prabowo, around 100,000 units of flats (rusun) will be constructed.
“I have planned that we will build new cities, new cities. Each city might consist of 100,000 houses, flats, 100,000,” he said.
The Head of State admitted that he has ordered each city to be equipped with educational facilities, sports, daycare, and mass transportation.
“I order that there must be schools, there must be sports facilities, there must be daycare, there must be hospitals, and most importantly there must be transportation, transportation. Whether light rail, buses, so that workers can get to work smoothly and well,” he said.
Not only that, Prabowo stated that workers will receive cards to use transportation at low prices.
“We will try that later workers will be given cards, can use transportation at very low prices,” he said.
