President Prabowo Subianto has proposed a competition to find the cleanest cities, offering an incentive of up to Rp20 billion. He has directly instructed Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi to prepare and coordinate the plan with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Speaking at a mass contract signing event for 62,000 subsidised housing units and the distribution of housing microcredit in Batang Regency, Central Java, Prabowo suggested that the five cleanest cities should receive the prize. He argued that providing funds would be more beneficial than just giving a trophy, suggesting the money could be used to purchase trucks and excavators. The President also called on regional heads, military commanders, and police chiefs to inspect rivers and the environment for one hour daily. He urged them to reprimand owners of unkempt houses, dirty environments, and neglected shop areas, and to involve community leaders and civil servants in cleaning efforts for an hour each day.
