President Prabowo Subianto personally escorted Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia to the Indonesian Air Force Base at Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta. The moment served as the conclusion to PM Anwar’s courtesy visit to Indonesia for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

According to the Press, Media, and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, on Friday (27/3/2026), after a meeting at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Anwar, accompanied by Prabowo, walked towards the vehicle. The song Rasa Sayange accompanied the light conversation between the two national leaders en route to the vehicle.

Not only up to the vehicle door, Prabowo also directly escorted PM Anwar’s departure from Merdeka Palace by riding in the same vehicle. The moment demonstrated the close diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia, while also affirming the long-established personal rapport between the two leaders of kindred nations.

Upon arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Anwar was farewelled with full honours by a guard of honour standing rigidly in line with the aircraft stairs. A warm and friendly atmosphere was evident once again as the two leaders bid farewell before PM Anwar ascended the aircraft stairs.

Additionally, under the aircraft stairs, those seeing off Anwar included Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

From beneath the aircraft stairs, Prabowo waved his hand, which was reciprocated by PM Anwar’s wave from the aircraft door as a sign of parting. This symbolised the close friendship that continues to bind the two leaders and nations.

Around 19:20 WIB, the aircraft carrying PM Anwar and a limited entourage departed Indonesia, ending the short visit.

Previously, Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to ease the conflict in the Middle East.

“Today’s meaningful meeting with President @prabowo opens constructive space in finding common ground to address the Western Asia conflict that is now pressuring energy security and global economic stability,” Anwar Ibrahim wrote on his Instagram account.

As kindred nations, Anwar emphasised that Malaysia and Indonesia are firm in maintaining security and stability amid deepening global uncertainties.

“In the increasingly acute global uncertainty, Malaysia and Indonesia affirm the need to strengthen principled regional unity to maintain security, ensure stability, and enhance economic resilience for the people’s welfare,” he said.

Indonesia and Malaysia, according to Anwar, have agreed to de-escalate the conflict so that the war victims in the Middle East do not intensify. Furthermore, with the conflict subsiding, it is hoped that the global economy can recover.

“We agree to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict, protect civilian lives, and open space for negotiations towards a safe and lasting resolution. At the same time, the continuity of global supply chains and strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must be ensured to remain unaffected,” he stated.
