Prabowo: Peace Cannot Come Only Through Prayer and Hope

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia will continue championing peace globally. According to Prabowo, such efforts cannot be achieved merely through prayer and hope alone. Prabowo conveyed this perspective whilst delivering remarks at the Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening, 10 March 2026.

“Of course, maintaining peace is not simply about praying and hoping, but also through striving, through hard work to achieve prosperity and justice,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo stated that peace must be fought for. “We must recognise that peace cannot simply fall from the sky without endeavour and hard work from all of us,” said the former Defence Minister.

According to Prabowo, maintaining peace is also a teaching of nearly all religions and all their leaders. “We will strive very hard to maintain peace,” he said.

Beyond maintaining peace, Prabowo stated that the Indonesian nation must also work strenuously to eliminate poverty, hunger, and suffering from all its people. He said the nation cannot allow any citizens to be abandoned.

Indonesia, he said, possesses sufficient wealth as a gift from God. “Now it is the leaders who must work properly,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo expressed his determination to eliminate corruption and embezzlement from the nation. According to him, no country can succeed if its government cannot cleanse itself of corruption.

“This is a teaching of both religion and history. We cannot be defeated by those who wish to seize the wealth of the people, take it to another country, and keep the Indonesian nation and people in a weakened state,” he said.

One step claimed by the Indonesian government as an endeavour towards peace is joining the Board of Peace. Indonesia’s membership in the US-backed organisation has drawn criticism from those questioning its commitment to Palestinian liberation.

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid stated that Prabowo still wishes to strive through the Board of Peace. “The President’s position is that the Indonesian nation has accepted the BoP as a means, as an endeavour towards peace,” said Nusron following Prabowo’s iftar event with Islamic leaders at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday evening, 5 March 2026.

Prabowo, according to Nusron, wants to attempt this endeavour. “We should not ask him to withdraw before the effort and endeavour have even been undertaken,” he said.
