Prabowo Pays Final Respects to Ryamizard Ryacudu
President Prabowo Subianto attended the funeral rites and farewell ceremony for General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu at the Ministry of Defence office in Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026. The Head of State arrived at the location at approximately 8:25 AM WIB. According to a press release from BPMI Setpres, upon arrival at the Ministry of Defence, Prabowo proceeded directly to the Hening Room to pay his final respects to the late general. In a solemn atmosphere, Prabowo stood for a moment before the coffin and offered prayers in recognition of the deceased’s dedication and service to the nation. Previously, the remains of General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu arrived at the Ministry of Defence office at 7:35 AM WIB and were laid in state in front of the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall. The funeral rites were presided over by Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan as the reviewing officer. General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Throughout his career, he was recognised as a prominent military figure who made significant contributions to Indonesia. He served as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005 and as Minister of Defence from 2014 to 2019. Following the funeral rites, the remains were transported from the Ministry of Defence to the National Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata, Jakarta. This departure was part of the final honours before the military funeral ceremony. The military funeral at the National Heroes Cemetery in Kalibata is set to be led by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as the reviewing officer. The ceremony represents the nation’s highest tribute to a soldier and statesman who dedicated his life to Indonesia. According to gathered information, Ryamizard passed away in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU) of RSPAD. Tracing Ryamizard Ryacudu’s military career, from Chief of Staff of the Army to Defence Minister, he was known for his ‘Bela Negara’ doctrine and loyalty to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
