Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – President Prabowo Subianto raised the issue of village funds not being fully distributed to the public over the past 10 years. He said that during that period, many village officials allegedly misused the budgets allocated to village governments.

“Over the past 10 years, we must admit that much of those funds did not reach the people. This is evidenced by the large number of village heads who have been forced to face legal proceedings because they could not properly account for the use of those funds,” Prabowo said in his speech at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 event in Jakarta on Friday (2/13).

Prabowo committed that under his leadership, this will no longer happen. He emphasized that village budgets going forward will be used for the best interests of the broader public.

Prabowo cited the Red and White Cooperative program as one example. He said he received reports that approximately 30,000 cooperatives are about to become operational. Each cooperative will also have a warehouse.

“They will have outlets where there will be affordable village pharmacies, generic medicines will reach village clinics, there will be outlets for super micro financing to help eliminate the role of loan sharks. We will provide easy, affordable interest rates for them — all subsidized goods will be accessible,” he said.
