Prabowo Outlines Four Principles for Leading Indonesia

President Prabowo Subianto has outlined four key principles that serve as the foundation of his administration in leading Indonesia. These principles stem from the oath he took on 20 October 2024, when he pledged to lead the state and nation with sincerity and honesty, prioritising the interests of all Indonesian people. For Prabowo, leadership is not merely about running the government, but also about upholding the mandate given by the people and being accountable to God Almighty. Therefore, every step taken by the government must have a clear direction and be based on the nation’s interests. In a state address before the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and a Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD), Prabowo stated that this oath forms the basis for carrying out his mandate as President of the Republic of Indonesia. He outlined four principles that continue to guide him. “First, we work to uphold and implement the commands of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo said. The second principle is to safeguard, implement, and protect vital national interests. According to Prabowo, this includes managing the nation’s wealth so that it can be fully utilised for the prosperity of all Indonesian people. He emphasised that national interests must not be separated from the direction of development, and that the country’s wealth must be managed with the ultimate goal of benefiting the wider community, not just specific interests. The third principle is to work quickly to overcome the difficulties faced by the people. Prabowo stressed that the government must be present when society needs solutions and must not allow problems to drag on. The fourth principle emphasises a long-term orientation. Every government policy must not only address today’s needs but also consider the lives of future generations.
