Prabowo Outlines Conditions for Indonesia's Joining of the Board of Peace
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has outlined several conditions before deciding to join the Board of Peace initiated by United States President Donald Trump. Prabowo also touched on UN Security Council Resolution 2803 regarding the global peacekeeping mission. “So, my condition from the start is that I will participate in the peace process, Indonesia is ready to contribute peacekeeping forces, provided it is approved by the UN. Finally, the Board of Peace was approved by the UN,” said Prabowo during a discussion with journalists and experts that aired on Thursday (19/3/2026), quoted from Kompas TV’s YouTube. Afterwards, Prabowo also resumed communications with several other Muslim-majority countries. Prabowo acknowledged that efforts to advocate for Palestinian independence are not easy. Through the Board of Peace, it is hoped that greater opportunities can be provided to champion Palestine, compared to not joining at all. “Finally, we reached this conclusion: if we are inside, perhaps we can influence and help the Palestinian people. We know it’s not easy,” said Prabowo. “If we are inside, maybe we can help, support the Palestinian people. If outside, we cannot do it. So finally, we decided to join,” he continued. If the Board of Peace is later deemed unproductive, Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia will withdraw. “As soon as we conclude there is no hope, and it is counterproductive, we assess that we are wasting time, wasting energy, and it is not beneficial to the national interests of the Indonesian nation, we will leave,” he asserted. According to him, membership in the Board of Peace does not absolutely require member states to follow every agenda. Prabowo stated that the Board of Peace provides flexibility for each country according to national caveats or national limitations. “So, national reservations can be respected. So, if the Board of Peace has many activities, country X (says) ‘we want to join this one, we don’t want to join this one’, that is allowed,” he explained.
