Prabowo Orders TNI Commander and National Police Chief to Investigate Illegal Tin Mines
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police Chief General Listyo to investigate officials suspected of involvement with the existence of around 1,000 illegal tin mines in Bangka Belitung.
Prabowo said the government had previously shut down around 1,000 illegal tin mines in the region.
“At the end of last year, we closed 1,000 illegal tin mines in Bangka Belitung. 1,000 illegal mines. I have asked the TNI Commander and the National Police Chief to investigate — how could 1,000 mines go unnoticed by TNI and police officials? National Police Chief and TNI Commander, investigate,” said Prabowo at the Annual Session of the MPR RI in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Friday (14/8).
He questioned the purpose of granting ranks and positions to officials if they are not used to curb illegal activities.
“What is the point of the state giving them ranks and positions if they cannot bring order to this? I speak on behalf of the Indonesian people. All the people’s representatives are here,” he said.
