Prabowo Orders Strengthening of Perminas Role at Hambalang Meeting
Jakarta (ANTARA) — President Prabowo Subianto, whilst chairing a restricted cabinet meeting (ratas) at his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, on Monday evening (9 March), instructed his administration to strengthen the role of the state-owned Perusahaan Mineral Nasional (Perminas).
The Government Communications Agency, in a post on the official social media account of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, confirmed in Jakarta on Monday evening, stated that strengthening Perminas’s role is a strategic step by the government.
“The President held a restricted meeting regarding the National Mineral Company alongside several members of the Red and White Cabinet to discuss various downstream processing agendas going forward,” according to the official statement from the Government Communications Agency, posted on the social media account @presidenrepublikindonesia.
In the discussion, President Prabowo stressed that strengthening Perminas is a strategic measure to ensure the management of Indonesia’s mineral resources is more integrated and capable of generating added value for the national economy.
In the same meeting, President Prabowo emphasised that the acceleration of downstream processing must proceed in tandem with the development of domestic technology, strengthening industrial capacity, and improving the quality of human resources.
“(The objective is, ed.) to enable Indonesia to develop into a production and innovation hub whilst simultaneously strengthening national energy independence and competitiveness at the global level,” according to President Prabowo’s instruction at the Hambalang meeting on Monday evening.
In the meeting, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia sat directly to the left of President Prabowo. Opposite the President’s chair sat the Head of the Mineral Industry Agency Brian Yuliarto, who also serves as Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
Also present were Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, Deputy TNI Commander Tandyo Budi Revita, Presidential Chief of Staff Muhammad Qodari, PT Pindad Managing Director Sigit P. Santosa, Head of the Defence Logistics Agency Yusuf Jauhari, and Pertamina Commissioner Hasan Nasbi.
In the same meeting, in addition to discussing Perminas and the acceleration of downstream processing, President Prabowo and his administration also evaluated energy and food self-sufficiency programmes and discussed government preparedness ahead of Eid al-Fitr in mid-March 2026.
“This strategic meeting focused on two main government agendas, namely: self-sufficiency progress, evaluating the development of food and energy self-sufficiency programmes; Eid al-Fitr readiness, ensuring the availability of food supplies and LPG supplies ahead of Eid al-Fitr,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy in the official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, confirmed in Jakarta on Monday evening.
