Prabowo Orders Ride-Hailing App Commission Cut to 8%
President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the issue of online motorcycle taxis (ojol) in his speech at the May Day or International Labour Day celebration. Prabowo mentioned the large commission taken by the app providers, which reaches 20 per cent.
Prabowo stated that he does not agree and requested that the ojol commission be reduced below 10 per cent. He considered it unfair if the company reaps large profits, while the ojol workers have to toil in the field.
“Ojol work hard, risking their lives every day. Ojol app companies demand 20 per cent. How can ojol agree to 20 per cent? What about 15 per cent? How much?? 10 per cent, you demand 10 per cent? I say here I do not agree with 10 per cent,” Prabowo emphasised at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta, as reported by detikFinance on Friday (1/5/2026).
“It must be below 10 per cent. It’s too easy, you sweat and they get the money, sorry. If you don’t want to comply, we don’t need to operate in Indonesia,” Prabowo continued.
Prabowo has already signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Workers. The regulation contains several provisions, including the provision of BPJS Health coverage and work accident insurance.
Through the Perpres, the government also regulates the income sharing between drivers and app providers, changing it from the previous 80 per cent - 20 per cent to 92 per cent - 8 per cent.
“What I mentioned earlier, they must be given work accident insurance, will be given BPJS health insurance, health insurance. Also, the income sharing from 80 per cent for drivers now becomes a minimum of 92 per cent for drivers,” Prabowo concluded.
