President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the Presidential Palace guard handover ceremony to become a regular attraction. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the ceremony will now be held every week by the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) in front of Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

"On the President's instructions, the Paspampres unit will conduct a Presidential Palace guard handover ceremony every Sunday morning at 08:00 Western Indonesian Time in front of Merdeka Palace," Teddy said via the @sekretariat.kabinet Instagram account, as quoted on Monday, 16 February 2026.

The spectacle will take place alongside the regular car free day activities held every Sunday along Jalan Sudirman to Jalan MH Thamrin. Teddy said the ceremony can be watched directly by local residents, car free day participants, and members of the public who come specifically to view the procession.

Teddy stated that Paspampres Commander Major General Edwin Sumantha carried out Prabowo's directive by staging the ceremony. He claimed the guard handover procession has become a particular attraction for members of the public wishing to take photographs in front of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Approximately 150 personnel and 30 horses are involved in each Presidential Palace guard handover ceremony. "Public enthusiasm has been tremendous, as evidenced by the large number of people who attended to watch the procession," Teddy said.
