President Prabowo Subianto has requested the redevelopment of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area to become a new international-standard icon for Indonesia. Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani stated that Prabowo directed the development of the GBK area to be carried out comprehensively. The area is expected to become a new centre of economic growth in Jakarta. According to him, the development not only includes the revitalisation of Hotel Sultan but also the reorganisation of the entire GBK area, which spans approximately 200 hectares. “Yes, the plan is to make it a new icon for Indonesia. It will be comprehensively transformed, not just in this GBK area,” said Rosan. “It will be redesigned, from the golf course to the GBK area, which is roughly 200 hectares in size,” he continued. He noted that the management of the area could later involve several state-owned entities, including InJourney and Meru, once all administrative processes coordinated by the Ministry of State Secretariat are completed. However, Rosan emphasised that the final concept for the area’s development is still being refined.
