Prabowo orders no increase in subsidised fuel prices
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered that the price of subsidised fuel oil (BBM) must not be raised amid the ongoing high dynamics of world crude oil prices.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said the directive was conveyed by the President during a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, which was also attended by Head of the Development Control and Special Investigation Agency (Bappisus) Aris Marsudiyanto and Head of BP BUMN, who is also Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria.
“We also discussed developments in world oil prices, which continue to experience very high dynamics. The President’s directive orders that subsidised fuel prices be maintained and not be raised,” Bahlil told reporters after the meeting.
“However, if the world ICP price does fall, we will also consider adjusting our non-subsidised prices to the market price. If it falls, it falls; just don’t raise it, that’s roughly the gist,” he said.
It is known that oil prices fell by more than 5 percent on Monday (3/8) after United States President Donald Trump stated that peace negotiations with Iran would continue and his decision to cancel a planned military strike against Iran.
Brent crude oil prices, the international benchmark, fell to around 83.40 US dollars per barrel (approximately Rp1.5 million) on Monday at 06.05 GMT (13.05 WIB). Oil prices fell sharply amid rising hopes for the resumption of diplomacy to ease concerns about further disruptions to energy supplies from the Middle East.
Previously, PT Pertamina (Persero) had also made gradual adjustments to non-subsidised fuel prices. As of 1 August 2026, Pertamax fell from Rp16,250 per litre to Rp15,950 per litre, Pertamax Green 95 fell from Rp17,000 to Rp16,600 per litre, and Pertamax Turbo fell from Rp19,300 per litre to Rp18,300 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of Pertalite remains at Rp10,000 per litre, and Biosolar remains at Rp6,800 per litre.
