Prabowo Orders Military and Police Chiefs to Crack Down on Corrupt Officials
President Prabowo Subianto has called on all members of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the TNI to continue reforming and improving their institutions to ensure that its members do not support illegal activities.
Prabowo reminded that officials, along with Polri and TNI personnel, are paid by the people.
“Commander of the TNI, Chief of Police, I don’t want to hear anymore about any officers who fail to uphold the law, justice, and truth. It is not permissible to support various illegal activities,” said the President during the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum and a halfway house in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, Saturday (16/5).
Prabowo specifically asked Polri and TNI personnel to continue making improvements and eliminate irregularities and corruption from within their respective institutions.
“All officers must improve themselves, they must cleanse themselves, they must be brave enough to make corrections. It should not be the case that officers are behind irregularities, officers support irregularities, officers support smuggling, drug trafficking, gambling, and other illegal activities. This must not happen,” Prabowo reminded.
Speaking on behalf of the people, Prabowo asked Polri and TNI to become police and military forces for the people.
Prabowo highlighted that efforts to improve are continuously being carried out by leaders in each of these institutions. Various efforts are also being made by Polri and TNI to support community welfare.
As an example, Prabowo underlined the role of both institutions in supporting food self-sufficiency efforts, including directly engaging in rice fields and plantations.
“This is what I mean when I say that the TNI is the military of the people, our police must be the police of the people, and this is what the current leaders of the Police are pioneering,” said Prabowo Subianto.
