Prabowo Orders KAI to Build Housing Along Senen Market Railway Tracks
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto immediately held a meeting with the President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidin and several related ministers regarding plans to build decent housing along the railway tracks. This came after Prabowo inspected the area along the railway in Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (26/3/2026) afternoon WIB.
Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Lieutenant Colonel Infantry Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that Prabowo directly contacted the relevant officials to accelerate the handling of the matter. According to him, the ministers promptly followed up on the meeting’s outcomes.
“President Prabowo immediately ordered the Minister of Housing via telephone (as he was in Toba, represented by the ministry’s secretary general), the Minister of Public Works, the President Director of Perumnas and KAI, as well as several related officials to build housing for residents along the railway tracks,” said Teddy in a press release in Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026).
According to Teddy, the government ensures that the initial process of building new housing in the Pasar Senen area proceeds immediately without delay. “Today, the team is already moving to prepare the construction process for new housing located not far from their original living area,” he said.
Teddy explained that the swift action was taken after Prabowo directly heard about the residents’ conditions, who have long lived in limitations. Many of them, he added, have settled for decades in the area along the tracks with very minimal facilities.
“According to the residents’ statements, they have lived for decades along the tracks with limited housing and roofs. And the President wants these residents to be provided with decent places to live and sanitation facilities as soon as possible,” Teddy clarified.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that his side will promptly follow up on the Head of State’s instructions by securing the area around the tracks. Currently, KAI personnel are conducting an inventory of the area and residents as part of the arrangement process.
“KAI supports the President’s instructions through the inventory of residents’ settlements around the rail lines and area security. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with ministries and other parties for long-term steps,” said Bobby in Jakarta on Friday.
