President Prabowo Subianto met with Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and PT KAI (Persero) President Director Bobby Rasyidin to specifically discuss the railway sector. During the meeting, Bobby reported that one key item presented was a plan to renovate Gambir Station. He stated that President Prabowo’s directive is for the renovation to commence as soon as possible. “Immediately, the president’s order is immediate,” Bobby said following the meeting at the State Palace on Thursday (11/6/2026). Bobby is targeting the renovation to be completed within the next two years. “Gambir is planned to undergo renovation; within two years, we will have a great Gambir,” he added. He further explained that Gambir will become a national station, meaning it will also be integrated with the electric commuter rail station. “We will integrate it with the KRL,” said Bobby. He did, however, acknowledge that Manggarai Station will also become a hub for interprovincial trains. “Yes, Manggarai will become a hub,” he clarified. Additionally, Bobby reported that his team has been managing level crossings following a fatal accident in Bekasi some time ago. KAI has closed 172 level crossings, with a further 490 crossings still in the closure process. The largest concentration is in the Greater Jakarta area, accounting for 160 level crossings. “We are upgrading the progress on level crossings quickly; many have been closed—171 closed, and around 490 are in the closure progress. The remaining 1,148 have begun reaching the stage of barrier gate progress,” he said.
