Prabowo Orders Investigation into Masterminds Behind Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus
President Prabowo Subianto has called for the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be investigated to its conclusion, including identifying the intellectual actors behind it.
“We must investigate who ordered it, who paid for it,” Prabowo stated during a discussion with journalists and observers, as shared in a video broadcast on Thursday (19/3/2026).
When asked about the possibility of state apparatus involvement, Prabowo assured that it must still be investigated. He guaranteed no protection for perpetrators, even if they come from official institutions.
“Of course. I guarantee it, but conversely, if these are provocateurs not from the government or apparatus, we must obviously investigate,” he said.
Prabowo also gave assurances that the government will not tolerate such acts of violence.
“Believe me, I will not allow things like that to happen. Believe me, I was elected by the people to defend the people, but we must be vigilant; I demand it be investigated properly until the actors are uncovered,” he stated.
Regarding the investigation timeline, Prabowo left the legal process to law enforcement officials. Not only the National Police, but also other law enforcement apparatus must work professionally.
“I am a realistic and fair person; in terms of capacity, let them work. But not only the Police, many other institutions must also work,” he said.
Prabowo also expressed openness to forming an independent team to investigate the case, with the condition that the team is truly neutral.
“We can consider it, as long as it’s independent, not all NGOs that are already biased against the government and receive funding from abroad,” he said.
