Prabowo Orders Investigation into Bekasi Timur Train Accident
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has instructed an investigation to probe the train collision incident at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night.
“Then also on that occasion, he (Prabowo), accompanied by the Minister of Transport and the President Director of PT KAI, had a brief discussion and received a report on last night’s incident, and he ordered several investigative steps to be carried out, of course they must be done,” said the Cabinet Secretary Prasetyo Hadi via voice recording on Tuesday (28/4).
In addition, Pras stated that Prabowo also requested several anticipatory measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Pras mentioned that Prabowo once checked the production year of Indonesia’s trains.
“And he also decided that we are asked to handle approximately 1,800 railway crossings that must be guarded or built with some kind of flyover to ensure that those intersection or railway crossing lines are safe from the potential for accidents,” he said.
Furthermore, Pras mentioned that Prabowo requested that all victims of the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station receive optimal treatment.
Separately, Prabowo promised compensation for the victims when visiting them at Bekasi General Hospital. He also expressed deep condolences over last night’s incident.
The KA Argo Bromo train collided with a KRL Commuter Line train at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night around 20:55 WIB.
The latest update records 14 passengers dead in this accident. Around 84 people were injured.
“The latest data as of 08:45 WIB records 14 people dead. The deceased victims have been taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for further identification. Meanwhile, 84 injured victims have received medical treatment at various health facilities,” said PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin in an official statement on Tuesday (28/4).
The injured victims have also received treatment at several hospitals, including Bekasi General Hospital, Bella Bekasi Hospital, Primaya Hospital, Mitra Plumbon Cibitung Hospital, Bakti Kartini Hospital, Siloam Bekasi Timur Hospital, Hermina Hospital, as well as Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat Hospitals.
